The 4-day Easter Holiday School followed hard on the heels of the Oudtshoorn excursion. 86 children and youth registered and 24 Young Leaders participated. The theme for the event was Pets – and how to care for them. Both KAPS (Karoo Animal Protection Society) the Swellendam SPCA provided support and gave an input on the first day. This was followed by a day of games and of decorating the long concrete wall bounding the school netball field with chalk drawings on the theme.
On Day 3 serious work began. The children and youth divided into 5 groups by age with Young Leaders assigned to each. They were tasked with developing a play on the theme for performance on the final day, complete with song and dance and costumes improvised from recycled materials. Performances were spirited and full of humour and the event ended on a high note with prizes for the best performances.
Our MissionIs to uplift children from disadvantaged backgrounds. We endeavour to empower them by giving them the childhood they deserve; by allowing them to play and be creative and to learn that they are capable of achieving.
