01.04.2011 – 31.03.2012
The report which follows describes the many achievements at Net vir Pret in the past year. Chief among these was the acquisition the property at Renonkel Avenue, thanks to EDSA, our founding donor. Having our own premises has made an enormous difference to the quality of our work, although the building is too small to accommodate all our activities and our urgent priority now is to find the means to extend it.
The new partnership with the Handspring Trust has led to astounding work with our children and youth and funding from our new donor, the DG Murray Trust, has put the Young Leaders Programme onto a new footing.
We have extended our scope by initiating a matric outreach programme and have established links with the Rural Education Aid Programme and the Association for Educational Transformation, who both provide funding for tertiary study, and we were instrumental in finding bursaries for five of the 2011 matriculants.
My thanks go first to our donors for their belief in our vision and their trust in our abilities. Without them there would be nothing. Our staff also deserve our heartfelt appreciation. They put in long hours, often over weekends, without complaint; the fruits of their work form the basis of this report. Mention must also be made of the Young Leaders and the many volunteers, local and from other countries, who provide crucial help in achieving the delivery of our services across so many activities.
I am also deeply grateful to our Board for their valuable presence at our monthly meetings and for their continued passion for our work.
We look forward to the challenges and opportunities the new year will bring.
