Peter, Derek and Herman accompanied by 19 Young Leaders and 10 Blikkiesband players travelled to
Oudtshoorn on Good Friday on a four-day excursion to attend the annual KKnK, South Africa’s largest festival, which showcases both the performing and visual arts.
Bungalow accommodation for the group at the Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility in the hills near the Cango Caves was very kindly provided at no cost by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
The Blikkiesband gave two street performances to an appreciative crowd and the Young Leaders paraded the giant ostrich and peacock puppets from last year’s Dec 16 event to the delight of everybody. Thanks to Festival organisers, the group was able to attend three theatre performances.
The experience was stimulating and encouraging for the group and highly enjoyable. Our thanks go to Linda Marques Wilson, KKnK Manager, Iain Harris, Co-ordinator of Street Events, and Moeniel Jacobs of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport for making it possible.
