Holiday schools

Net vir Pret runs four Holiday Schools annually for children and youth from Barrydale and the surrounding farms. The Holiday School programme counters the vulnerability of township children to gangsterism, crime, drug and alcohol abuse and sexual exploitation which increases during school vacations.

Activities during the Holiday Schools include play-building, art and craft workshops and sports. Both breakfast and lunch are provided. Each Holiday School has its own theme.  Recent themes have been Caring for Pets, Bullies & Bullying, our Khoi-San Heritage and the Cape Slaves.

Holiday Schools are between one and three weeks in duration, depending on the length of the vacation and are run by our Staff, Interns and Young Leaders. In the 2015 December Holiday School, over 130 children and youth attended.
